Bolton Remembers the War is an oral history project, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, which has aimed to record and preserve representative living memories of Bolton people who shared the life of the town during the Second World War.

The project concentrates on the Home Front - the day to day experience of life in Bolton itself between 1939 and 1945 - but also documents the stories of some of those who began their War in Bolton and joined the Services later.

Here you can read the stories and listen to the voices of those who lived and worked in our town during the War and whose ordinary lives were changed forever by extraordinary circumstances.

Above all, these pages are dedicated to the memory of those who never came home to share the peace and freedoms that we enjoy today...

A 34 minute Bolton Remembers the War DVD presentation using voices and images collected during the project is available for loan from Bolton Libraries.
